Yangmingshan Trip – 8/30/2020

Today we went to the Yangmingshan National Park (陽明山國家公園) in northern Taipei! Yangmingshan features many mountains and natural resources that many tourists may view at.

We first took the MRT to Jiantan Station(捷運劍潭站). To get to Yangmingshan, we had to transfer at the station because the National Park is an hour away from the MRT. Next, we took the Red 5 (紅5) bus to the Yangmingshan National Park Visitor Center. And finally, we had to take Bus 108 to our first destination.

We first took a deep breath at Erziping (二仔坪) to take a hiking trip through the mountains. There were so many trees, weird leaves, and exotic birds there! The day was very clear today, so we were lucky enough to have sunshine during the hike.

For lunch, I had our homemade pesto pasta while my parents ate rice. When we hiked back to our starting point, we had already hiked 4 kilometers already! Erziping is a very beautiful place that everyone should go to if you are feeling stressed out. There was also a lot of mist and wind along the way! 😄

We took Bus 108 again to our second destination, which was Xiaoyoukeng (小油坑). Xiaoyoukeng featured many vents (which signified that there was volcanic activity) and also featured some fumaroles. Fumaroles are puddles or vents that boil at about 70-100 degrees Celsius and produce sulfuric steam. Since there was so much sulfur around Xiaoyoukeng, it smelled a lot during the trip. But luckily, we got a lot of photos of the Qixing Mountain and the vents.

After our visit, we decided to go home. So we took Bus 1717 to MRT Jiantan Station and went home.

Overall, I think this is a very nice place that reminds me of our 2018 DC Shenandoah Trip!
