In 2019, President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence had approved of sending humans to the moon again by 2024 – roughly fifty years after the initial landing of Apollo 11.

The mission, named after the Greek mythological god Apollo’s sister, Artemis, is intended to make history again in mankind – for the second time. After NASA can prove that men and women can stay on a terrestrial planet for long periods of time, NASA is able to send people to Mars to explore yet another world of unknown wonders.

They intend to invest $21 billion USD for this project that features many new technologies:

  • The Space Launch System. Similar to the fifteen Saturn Vs used in the Apollo Program, the SLS is used to boost the Orion capsule that would hold the astronauts into space.
  • The Orion Module. Similar to the command module and the service module in the Apollo missions, NASA has already verified a new and improved capsule for humans to live in for short periods of time.
  • Gateway. Something that the Apollo missions didn’t include, the Gateway module that orbits around the moon supporting humans and robots for space exploration. NASA and SpaceX have partnered up to send pressurized materials for humans and bots to support Moon mining. In the future, Gateway may be another International Space Station, just at a smaller scale.

In this short pamphlet, you can read about NASA’s plan to send humans to the Moon and then Mars:
