Yesterday I recently went to a really good concert: a Beethoven concert where the famous Ms. Mutter performed for us! Here’s the program:
- Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 4 in A Minor, Op. 23
- Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 5 in F Major, Op. 24 “Spring”
- Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 9 in A major, Op. 47 “Kreutzer”
…and she played FOUR Encore pieces!!! This is one of the most cherished concerts of my adolescence! However, for the Q/A, the Taiwanese selectors only took 6 questions(which were written on paper) but didn’t select anyone below the middle school level. That really annoyed me and showed how disrespectful the Taiwanese people are to their own children. 🙁
My personal opinion on this concert is that the first song was unfamiliar but nice and smooth, and the second/third pieces were GREAT! (they were familiar) I especially liked the Kreutzer Sonata because it can show the violinist techniques with the fast notes and the complicated bowing.
Also the Chiang-Shek Memorial Palace was really cool, especially for the authentic Chinese buildings placed in a triangle.
