Have you ever wondered what middle school looks like? What it even feels like? To start off with my perspective, I didn’t believe what the people who had middle school before me had to say about their lives. Sure, they would say that in middle school life would be busy, like remembering your next class, catching up with homework, studying for a quiz or even boosting up your grades. Those folks also used to say that they barely got any time to sleep. As a fifth-grader, I didn’t believe that at all, a transition from only one teacher, little homework and no grades to a school where you have to remember every class, and each class’s homework, quizzes and tests???

However, once I transitioned over from Village to Grover I realized that my prediction was wrong, and those folks were correct! Life started to boil up and at first, I was surprised that I had to keep track of all my grades in my classes. But once I got into the feel of middle school, I started memorizing my classes, aced all of my classes in every single class (except Life Skills) and even got a 104% in math in MP1(the school year is divided into 4 Marking Periods, each 45 days long)! The folks surely were 100% correct, but however one thing was incorrect: getting enough sleep. I got at least 9½ hours of sleep each night to this day in middle school.

To sum it up, here are some suggestions:

  • GET ENOUGH SLEEP(#1 priority) and don’t stay up
  • When you start school, keep a print-out of your schedule until you’re comfortable with it.
  • Buy an agenda and keep track of homework, tests, and quizzes(so you won’t forget to do your HW). Use the agenda for everyday life also.
  • Buy enough supplies for school.

Advice:

  • Cherish the time you have in elementary school. Everyone is the happiest in their younger grades.
  • YOU ARE going to get stressed. Everyone feels stressed in middle school(especially me) but think of a way to relieve the stress. For me, it’s doing some math.
  • Don’t forget to talk with your family in those gaps between your busy work.
  • When you get a bad grade in the middle of the marking period, don’t fret! Just complete the missing assignment and get partial credit. Then, try to do well on the other assignments that will be coming your way to boost your grade up.
