Many people say that COVID-19 is all bad, bad bad and worse, but there is a very bright side to this pandemic.
By reducing the spread of the virus by staying indoors away from your friends, known as social distancing, people right now are helping the planet recover from one of the most polluted decades in the 21st century. In 2016, the planet has set a record for the highest average global temperature ever recorded. But now, since people are staying home and going out to shop once a week, these temperatures have dropped and the Earth is returning to its normal state.
In these past years, the ozone hole in Antarctica had been getting larger and larger, even with the CFC Act in 1970, when Congress officially banned the chlorofluorocarbon chemical of use. In the early 21st century, there were tens of millions of cars in use around the world, which could cause the depletion of the ozone layer and possibly release harmful gases.
Luckily, COVID-19 has forced everyone to stay indoors, and studies at NASA show that the ozone layer has recovered itself from years of abuse. In March 2020, NASA has also shown that the amount of airborne particles has plummeted in Northern India, making a record-low for the first time in twenty years.
This concludes that we humans can help the earth a lot, depending if we choose to do so.
The results – the air is getting fresher, the ozone layer has recovered itself and there are fewer trucks out there that make you cough.
So without further due: continue to stay at home until the pandemic is over, and save the Earth! Happy Earth Day everyone!!! 😉
