Here are some good books to enhance your English reading skills and your knowledge of history. I have also provided a short summary of each book, so no worries about spoilers!
- The Count of Monte Cristo (Penguin Classics), by Alexander Dumas. Taking place in 1815, when a faithful sailor named Edmond Dantes gets thrown in prison for a crime he has not done, he plans his revenge on the three men responsible for his imprisonment out by breaking out of prison and dubbing himself “The Count of Monte Cristo”.
- The Lord of the Rings, by J. R. R. Tolkien. When Frodo receives the one and only Ring left behind by his older cousin Bilbo, he is obliged to make a treacherous journey through Middle Earth and cast the dangerous Ring into Mount Doom, the only place where it would end the evil lord Sauron’s rule.
- Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. A story about two admirers born in opposite families of hatred; the Capulets and the Montagues. In the end, however, both of two lovers eventually take their life. (not a spoiler, read the prologue of the text!)
- Winter World, (The Long Winter Trilogy Book #1) by A.G Riddle. The entire earth a snowball again. The ISS just got destroyed, and eventually, an artificial object got detected in the midst of the chaos. Just a natural disaster? NASA doesn’t think so.
- Points of You, by Vick Liu, Julia Rue, Mina Fahmi, and Drew Bent. Four friends from MIT share their points of you from their past experience, shared knowledge and their mistakes. Read this now if you want to succeed in your life and be as happy as you can!
